Dwellingup Mountain Bike Trails

The Dwellingup Mountain Bike Trails, offer a city escape and mountain bike adventure in just over one hour’s drive south of Perth, Western Australia. Located in WA’s South West Region, Dwellingup’s world class mountain bike network features over 108km of purpose built trails that thread from the townsite into the surrounding Lane Poole Reserve and Marrinup forest. Starting at the Dwellingup Trails & Visitors Centre, you can be park your car, pump your tyres and be rolling through the trees within 20 minutes of arrival. In November 2025, the WA Government announced the completion and official opening of the Stage 2, $8.5 million Dwellingup Adventure Trails Project, so if you a thinking about a drive out of town, or you are looking for a Western Australia mountain bike adventure not too far from Perth, there has never been a better time to explore the Dwellingup Adventure Trails.

How to get to the Dwellingup Mountain Bike Trails

Best way to get to Dwellingup is by car, especially if you want to pack up your bikes and bring them along for a mountain bike adventure. It’s approximately 110km drive to Dwellingup from Perth, Western Australia which will take between 1 – 1.5hours depending on traffic and which route you take. The Dwellingup Trails and Visitors Centre is located right in the centre of the Dwellingup Town.

Can I hire a bike in Dwellingup?

You can bring your own bikes along or hire a bike in Dwellingup. Dwellingup Adventures located at the Dwellingup Trails and Visitors Centre is open daily and bike hire starts from $25 per hour. They also hire bike racks, child carriers and helmets. You can choose to hire by the hour or book a bike for a full day. You can also hire camping gear and water equipment including, standup paddle boards, kayaks and canoes from Dwellingup Adventures.

How far are the trails from the Visitors Centre?

The Dwellingup Trails and Visitors Centre is located at the Dwellingup Mountain Bike Trailhead. Entry to various trails can be accessed within a few hundred metres of the centre. Right alongside the Visitors Centre is also a bike pump track.  We started with the Emu Run (1.6km green trail – rated easy) which started just 300m from the Visitors Centre – just go over the railway line and follow the path with the painted emu feet to the start of the Emu Run trail. We followed the Emu trail onto the Solitary Trail (3.2km green trail – rated easy) then followed the Mudda Biddi trail back.

What facilities are available?

In addition to bike and other equipment hire, the Dwellingup Trails & Visitors Centre features the beautiful Waypoints Bakery Cafe, so you can fuel up with food and drink before or after your mountain bike adventure. There are also showers, laundry, toilets and bike wash facilities. With the Visitors Centre are also maps and friendly staff to help you plan and get started on your mountain bike adventure.

Are the trails suitable for beginners?

There are a range of trails from easiest to moderate rating accessible from the Dwellingup Trail Head located at the Dwellingup Trails & Visitors Centre.  The Murray Valley sections of the trail located a little further out of town and feature more advanced trails and downhill sections. One trail at the Murray Valley Trailhead is named “Busted Nuts” if that gives you any indication of difficulty!

How long do you need to explore the trails?

You can complete one or two short trails in an hour, or take half a day to a full day to complete more trails or some of the longer trails. You can also camp at various locations within the Dwellingup Trails Network if you want to take more time and explore more of the trails.

Where can you camp within the trails network?

You can camp at a various locations within the Dwellingup Trails Network, camping fees and bookings may apply so please check before arriving –
 
Lane Pool Reserve
  • Baden Powell Campground: A large campground with shelters, barbecues, and a trail to the Murray River.
  • Nanga Mill Campground: Located on the site of an old saw mill, it’s a popular spot with pine trees and access to the Murray River for swimming.
  • Nanga Townsite Campground: A peaceful area among pine trees that once housed a timber mill town.
  • Tony’s Bend Campground: A secluded spot with generously spaced campsites along the Murray River.
  • Other sites: Other options include Charlies Flat, Chudich, and Yarragil campgrounds. 
Other Locations
  • Jarrahfall Bush Camp: An off-grid experience set in jarrah and marri forests, just outside Dwellingup.
  • Marrinup Townsite Campground: A simple, open grassed area on the site of an old town, about 5 km north-west of Dwellingup.
  • Bidjar Ngoulin Campsite: Specifically designated as an overnight option for those using the Waterous Trail or other trails in the area.

The Dwellingup Adventure Mountain Bike trails are a must for those looking for a day, overnight or weekend mountain bike adventure only an hour or so drive from Perth, Western Australia. Bring your own bikes or hire bikes when you get there. Fuel up at the beautiful Waypoints Bakery Cafe and use the facilities to shower and wash down your clothes and bikes. Head back to Perth the same day or stay at some local accommodation or campsites.
